Recovery:

The recovery process includes many factors, including rest, stretching, muscle stimulation, nutrition and sleep.  Multivitamins and mineral supplements assist the body in the recovery process.  Amino acids, Glutamine, & Protein work to repair trauma to the muscle and joint tissues sustained during the game. Joint tissue takes a lot more wear and tear then you think, visit the Joint Repair Section and you will find numerous products to help prevent breakdown.

Consume carbohydrates, protein, & glutamine ASAP, at least within 30 minutes after end of the game. Fluid loss is also the source of most athletes’ weight loss during game. Ensuring your body receives the right amount of fluid after the game is essential. The protein will help repair muscle tissue. The easiest way to do this is to have a protein drink or meal replacement ready to go for your post game ritual.

Water is a must but also be sure to replace sodium and potassium lost through perspiration.  Potassium can be replaced with fruits and vegetables, and sodium can be replaced by salty foods.  There are also an assortment of supplement drinks that support this process. Snack Bars again can aid in this process such as TRI-O-PLEX, or Lean Body Granola.

With proper stretching, recovery can be enhanced, as well as preventing stiff and sore muscles.  A proper stretching program will have positive effects on your recovery abilities. Pay close attention to factors that affect your recovery abilities and do your best to achieve optimal levels of recovery. Proper recovery can go a long way in improving your physique and performance level.
